Wenlan Chia showed her Jean Seberg-inspired Spring 2009 Twinkle by Wenlan collection on Monday, September 8th at The Salon at Bryant Park. Chia says that she hoped to capture actress Jean Seberg’s idealistic school girl charm with her classic tailored looks, made over with sporty elements, and whimsical, ultra-feminine detailing bringing to light her bohemian artistry.

“Twinkle’s spring 2009 collection is inspired by the free spirit of Jean Seberg.  There are idealistic school girl and bohemian details that exist both in her and in my spring line.  Jean’s grace, beauty and whimsical nature set the tone for this collection.  The blend of colors, textures, vintage inspired prints, and tailored silhouettes give my collection a classic, romantic quality—reminiscent of Jean Seberg’s legacy,” exclaims Chia.

Ultra-feminine frocks, many of them in light or neutral tones (notably Erin Fetherston, Verrier, Jill Stuart…) are certainly emerging as a big trend this season and Wenlan Chia’s Twinkle by Wenlan Spring 2009 collection was certainly no exception. Black, white, cream, and gray dominated with sapphire blue, pale pink, mint green, and lemon yellow highlights.

Most of the looks had trim silhouettes and this season splattered diamonds, vintage-inspired embellishments, abstract animal prints, rough wax, pastel embossments, cross-stitch sparrow and blossom motifs, and aboriginal carvings were all used to craft six new Twinkle prints.

While there weren’t too many knitted pieces in Chia’s silk-heavy collection (it is spring after all!), there was a beautiful silk cotton hand knitted white sweater dress that was paired with Peekaboo (one of the new Twinkle prints), bangles.
