Trendabl, Fashion’s Newest App: Closed Set with Julie Bensman

  • Designers with major industry cred.
  • Creative forces behind multi-million dollar brands.
  • Arbiters of all things New York chic.
  • Fashion trailblazers influencing how fellow style-setters seek, access, learn, and share sartorial inspiration.

When it comes to the last point, the three also employ the same app on constant iPhone rotation: Trendabl. Think Instagram for the fashion obsessed, Trendabl lets users add filters to their frames and tag posts with information like brand, store, color, and price, as well as share images with friends on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. “Our aim is to create the largest social networking platform for the fashion world,” says Founder and CEO Jon Alagem. A bit of a social butterfly himself, Alagem can often be spotted out with fashionable friends like Nicky Hilton and Brad Goreski (both of whom are Trendabl regulars, natch). I caught up with the man behind the brand to find out a bit more about the app that has the industry buzzing.

Julie Bensman: How did the Trendabl concept originate?

Jon Alagem: The social media presence for fashion was extremely fragmented. We wanted to develop a platform that would seamlessly converge fashion and technology. Unlike other apps, you are coming to Trendabl because you know exactly what types of images you’re going to see. It’s going to be everything fashion-related, so there won’t be pictures of pizza or someone’s dog (unless that dog is wearing a DVF dress).

JB: You’ve got the support of quite a few bold-faced names in the industry — what sort of cache do you think that lends to the app?

JA: I think celebrity/brand influencers help to validate the platform as something that’s real and here to stay. At the end of the day, however, Trendabl will be run by all its members, who will build what it will ultimately become.

JB: What do you envision the future to look like?

JA: New brands, celebs, and magazines are joining the platform every single day. We have plans for some big additions, but the focus right now is to perfect the application and grow our community.

Here’s who else is buzzing:

“Inspiration is the gasoline which drives all aspects of fashion,” says Simon Doonan, Creative Ambassador at Large of Barneys New York. “We are so happy to be a part of this incredible new format for ideas and creativity.”

“I am very excited to be a part of Trendabl because I think it’s going to revolutionize the way we share and discover fashion. It’s simple and innovative at the same time — and most importantly, user friendly. It’s the perfect on-the-go style platform, but be careful, it’s highly addictive!” says Harley Viera-Newton, model and brand ambassador to Dior.

“I’m incredibly excited to be a part of Trendabl. Fashion should be fun, visual, and of course, colorful!” says Brad Goreski, fashion stylist and star of Bravo’s It’s a Brad, Brad World.

Download and suit up, people.

xoxo,

Julie
