2. “Plus-size” Mannequins

On the complete flipside, other retailers, like H&M, Åhléns, Myer and Debenhams, have used mannequins of bigger proportions, ranging from sizes 12 -16.  It was still subject to controversy, though, with Britain’s chief medical director, Dame Sally Davies, worrying that the dummies were “normalising being overweight,” according to The Australian Women’s Weekly.

Others, like lingerie brand Today’s Woman, were stoked about the introduction of these “normal-size” mannequins. It posted the above image to Facebook, asking users to “LIKE” or “SHARE” if they wanted mannequins to look like this in stores. To give you an indication of the support, the post has garnered close to 2 million likes, has over 863, 000 shares, and although it was posted over a year ago in March 2013, people are still commenting on it today with their opinion.
