Maison Martin Margiela: The Exhibition

The house revealed that its elusive namesake designer was no longer behind the collection, just as MMM celebrated its 20th year.

Despite the apparent but still murky details surrounding the designer’s departure, an exhibition opened this week to celebrate the House in its entire white label, avant-garde glory.

The retrospective, while a great deal smaller than some other fashion exhibitions, showcases 50 mini installations featuring all of MMM’s most celebrated and revered works.

The exhibition, which was curated by Kaat Debo for the Fashion Museum in Antwerp, made its way to London and set up house in the south wing of Somerset House, home to London’s fashion week.

Limited edition pieces are showcased alongside a vast directory of odd and amazing creations that are only made five at a time.

It may not be colorful, shiny, or new, but this exhibit truly showcases all that is majestic about the iconic and always elusive fashion house.
