Sachin + Babi 2011 Resort Collection

True to form, Sachin + Babi’s ease of movement aesthetic is expressed through lightweight eyelet cottons, distressed denims, cotton blends, chiffons, and soft leathers that easily transition from day to night.

This collection contains must-have pieces that express simple, clean lines from the front, and then from the back, dramatically transform to unexpected, bold architectural forms.

Their sequined, pale beige, off-the-shoulder cocktail dress appears simply rouched from the front, but from the back is a cascading mélange of whimsy and frothy abandon.

“In this collection I give equal importance to the back and the front of the dress … My wife is my muse for a lot of my designs, and this particular dress was designed for her for the Met Gala,” says Sachin Ahluwalia.

The eyelet motif is consistent throughout the collection, and is sometimes matched with chain metal vests or leather jackets, expressing Sachin + Babi’s penchant for expressing feminine silhouettes through a prism of hard and soft fabrics and textures.

Sachin + Babi takes a utilitarian approach to the trenchcoat by designing it in white eyelet cotton, which transports this look from a traditional staple to a fashion-forward garment that has resort appeal. Sachin confides, “My mother wore eyelet dresses back when they were in vogue, so I got the idea to use that fabric in a trenchcoat with no lining which gives it an updated, peek-a-boo, modern silhouette that would fit into a resort collection.”

By combining the elements of innovation, incredible craftsmanship and soft and hard textures, Sachin + Babi have created a collection that incorporates a new vision of resort clothing that extends beyond tropical locales and seasons. With this collection, women can access great looks that work well in warm climates, urban environments, or on the red carpet.
