The Glossies: February’s Best and Worst Covers

This month, there were a number of notable covers on the newsstands. See which glossies impressed us and which ones didn’t.

First up – following news that her covers fly off the racks – is Kim Kardashian. In 2010, the reality star was featured in Shape’s best-selling issue of the year in June; she also appeared on Allure’s September cover, which was the monthly’s third best-seller of the year, and she was the second highest seller in 2010 for W, when she graced its November cover. Now, on the cover of Glamour, she plays up her sexy side (she was, after all, welcomed into countless living rooms after rising to infamy with her very own sex tape) by posing with her mouth slightly open wearing Tom Ford pajamas and a black La Perla bra. Love her or hate her, there’s no denying it makes for a stand-out cover, and come on, who doesn’t want to own their very own pair of Tom Ford PJs?

Possibly outdoing Kim K is Katie Holmes, who graces February’s issue of Elle. The actress, who will star in The History Channel’s miniseries The Kennedys, playfully poses with her hands pulling back her hair while she gives the camera a sultry, non-awkward smile (for once!)

Going out on a limb, Victoria Beckham covers Vogue UK in a natural-looking close-up shot – an interesting choice as it was just revealed that after eleven years of marriage and three children, Beckham will have her fourth child this summer. Cheryl Cole outshines the fashionable Beckham with an Elle UK cover in which she’s photographed softly touching one of her cheeks as her Blake Lively-esque hair drapes down her body.

As for Latina, I’m not sure what Christina Milian did to warrant being on a cover, but the singer poses in an unoriginal bandage dress while giving the camera a stare down that’s far from inviting. In the same vein, Mila Kunis models in a beaded Herve Leger mini for the February 2011 issue of Cosmopolitan where she poses sternly with an overly made-up face wedged between the headings “Bad Girl Sex” and “Great Guy, Lame Sex?”. On the other hand, Nicole Kidman did her best to smile for the latest Harper’s Bazaar cover, but no amount of Photoshop could mask the actress’ seemingly Botoxed, inexpressive face.

Also worth singling out is February’s flouncy Nicole Richie Lucky cover, which is perfectly light-hearted, colorful, and fun; Milla Jovovich looking like a Linda Evangelista doppelganger on the cover of Vogue Germany, and Gwyneth Paltrow looking down-to-earth and homie on the cover of Good Housekeeping as her “likeability” index continues to rise.
