Julien Macdonald Fall 2011 Runway Review

Julien Macdonald delivered a gothic and romantic collection with ethereal draping for Fall 2011. Elegant laces, seductive chiffons and layers upon layers of black created a dark and dreamy world of seductive dresses, blouses and gowns.

The collection started off with a series of looks in black of delicate lace, chiffon and velvet fabrications. But there was nothing fragile about these looks. They exuded a sense of confidence and strength. Black overcoats paired with gowns and mini dresses, fitted trousers with billowing blouses and cropped jackets, and a plethora of gorgeous, slinky cocktail dresses showed of a woman’s natural shape. Texture in both the detail of each garment and the pairing of a wool sweater and lace skirt added variety to the mostly black lineup. Fur was used in abundance in the overcoats and jacket trims.

The show ended with a series of gorgeous gowns in a lighter color palette of copper, nude gold, and ivory.
