Blumarine Fall 2011 Runway Review

With a cohesive theme and all-star model cast, it’s hard to fault Anna Molinari’s collection for Blumarine. It came in three main sections (with choreographed walks to match) that we’ll call ‘basic daywear’, ‘rainbow bright’, and ‘after work lace’.

The first was a love letter to neutrals with light camel tones paired with glossy blacks and matte greys. The simple outerwear, which was a reoccurring theme in this collection, was boxy in cut but fitting for the looks shown underneath. Model favorites such as Stam, Coco, Vlada, and Chanel graced the catwalk and there is something about having veteran models walk together that automatically lifts a presentation.

The second section, if looked at from afar, is the most dramatic color blocking we’ve seen all month, but stripped of the monochromatic styling and matchy-matchy accessories, what lies beneath are easily wearable pieces that could act as colorful accent pieces in any woman’s wardrobe.

The last section, perhaps the hardest to wear, featured variations on the designer’s signature black, and sometimes purple, yellow, and orange, lace paired with neutral outerwear and minimal accessories. In a collection this large, it is easy to see how saleable Blumarine is and while trendy it is not, it will surely reign supreme.
