Hussein Chalayan Fall 2011 Runway Review

Though it’s a shame that he has abandoned the theatrics of his runway shows, favoring instead to show his collection via film, Hussein Chalayan has by no means abandoned his place as one of the world’s leading technologically savvy designers. Chalayan’s Fall 2011 collection was, however, one of his most successful collections in terms of marrying both his conceptually minded nature with beautifully sculpted, utterly wearable looks done in a palette of dark neutrals.

Menswear inspired boxy blazers, kimono-style outerwear, sculpted tops that recalled the designer’s past “inertia” collection in their plays with volume, and languid dresses along with a stunning finale dress featuring contrasting textured fabrics made for a breathtaking offering – quiet the feat to make clothing look strong, elegant, yet unassumingly sexy while being shown amidst eerie fog.
