Scarlett Johansson is a Redhead Now; Kate Middleton Turns to Zara After a Double-Feature of McQueen

Scarlett Johansson Aubrun HairThough it's not like anyone at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue sits around watching tumbleweeds all day, this was a major weekend at the White House. President Obama took to the airwaves late last night to announce that Osama Bin Laden had been killed by American forces earlier that day, but his national address may have been overshadowed by a display at the White House Correspondents Dinner the previous night: Scarlett Johansson is a redhead now! Like Blake Lively, who revealed her new copper locks at last week's Time 100 Gala, ScarJo ditched her blonde hair and went auburn. Like Blake, who made the big reveal in a turquoise Zuhair Murad, Scarlett complemented her new red tresses with a greenish Elie Saab dress. The dress was a lovely choice – but the hair? No complaints about the color (I think it suits Scarlett's pale complexion well, and the actress has gone red before, to great effect), but I have no clue why the actual styling looks so wilty and sad. And to top it all off, ScarJo wasn't just debuting a new 'do: the actress used the dinner as an opportunity to confirm rumors about her relationship with Sean Penn (the newly-minted couple flounced around the event hand-in-hand). You'd think she might have tried harder. I mean, it's Sean Penn. [People StyleWatch]

This is a very gloomy Monday (at least in New York. Anyone that's reading this from a warm and sunny locale is dead to me), so if you feel like a little pick-me-up, I recommend diving into today's online sample sales. Think Jimmy Choo, Elie Tahari, and Alexander McQueen. Yes, ma'am: for a gloomy Monday, things aren't so bad. [SheFinds]

After the Royal Wedding, Kate Middleton changed into another Sarah Burton-designed McQueen gown for the evening's reception (below, left), which basically meant that between the bride, her sister Pippa, and the guests, last Friday's fashion news day was a high fashion orgy. But it looks like the Duchess of Cambridge had a bit of a couture hangover, because the next morning, she stepped out in town with her new husband on her arm, wearing a polyester blue-pleated Zara dress, which retails for $89 (below, right). It appears that the dress is still available in stores, so you can buy it for yourself — or, you can follow Kate's example in another way, by staying true to your own style.
