Cooking at Home with Nicole Miller [Slideshow]

Flashpoint /

Unless you regularly watch the Food Network you might not know that designer Nicole Miller is quite the foodie. Having appeared as a guest judge on a number of culinary shows – including Iron Chef America – Miller, for the first time, opened her home to a handful of bloggers to share her passion for the culinary arts. Co-hosted in her Tribeca loft by Chef Anna Boiardi (as in the niece of the founders of Chef Boyardee), the designer could not have picked a better chef to lead the group. In fact, Boiardi regularly hosts cooking dinner parties in her own Tribeca apartment to share her passion for food so she knew just the right dishes to prepare for a group that included both novice as well as avid cooks.

Miller’s apartment is as glamorous as you’d expect. Filled to the brim with artwork (much of which features redheaded women!), greenery, and coffee table books, the oversized windows and open layout of the space make it a welcome respite from the Manhattan chaos that lurks outside. Each guest was given a chef’s apron, a cutting board, and a spot in the designer's open kitchen before Boiardi took the group through preparing an hors d’oeuvre (baked brie and apricot jam in phyllo cups), and two entrées (penne with roasted tomatoes and homemade gnocchi). It was a fun and interactive event and, to boot, useful for those of us not inclined to partake in culinary endeavors!
