Montreal’s Own: Mackage

Mackage, the brand is one of the many fashion success stories hailing out of Montreal. Eran Elfassy and Elisa Dahan are childhood friends, who spent their time sketching and dreaming of one day owning their own fashion lable. Little did they know, after completing the fashion design program at La Salle College, the two 20-year-olds would be launching Mackage, gaining international success.

The name Mackage actually came from Eran’s niece who was trying to pronounce “maquillage” (french for makeup) and couldn’t pronounce it properly. The name stuck and has since been the name of the most sought after outerwear label in North America. How cute is that?

I am a huge fan of this brand and its unique detailing and silhouettes. Mackage first started as a leather collection, evident in their staple leather accents on wool jackets. The brand now boasts two stores: one in Paris and one in New York, not too shabby for a Montreal born brand. They are also carried at various retailers throughout the world including: Saks Fifth Avenue, Aritzia, Holt Renfrew, Neiman Marcus to name a few.

While in Montreal over the holidays, I also noticed a few stores carrying their women’s ready-to-wear collection which launched at NYFW for F/W 2010. I love every single article — perfect pieces for the business woman who still wants to be sexy, sophisticated, and trendy without being to boring at the office or cocktail party. I am so proud of Mackage, one of the many pride and joys of Montreal. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for the brand.
