Maison Martin Margiela Fall 2012 Runway Review

Fall 2012 wasn’t the fashion forward intellectual punch many are still hoping Maison Martin Margiela will deliver ever since the reclusive designer stepped away from his brand, but there was still plenty that held appeal in the collection.

For the most part, silhouettes were wide and linear with standouts including short dresses finished with the brand’s signature asymmetric hems, high-collar outerwear and turtleneck sweaters, paneled floor length dresses, roomy menswear-inspired blazers and coats, and one can’t ignore all the Angelina Jolie-esque high slits. Speaking of daring, accessories were somewhat more avant garde with ankle boots appearing paint-splattered and pumps appearing powder dusted, while jewelry included giant cluster rings and pendants.
