News & Runway

Last season, we weren’t exactly sure where Kris Van Assche was going to take Dior Homme.

It was apparent that he was not going to be following in Hedi Slimane’s footsteps, but the collection looked promising enough.

This season, however, it seems as though Kris Van Assche forgot he was designing for Dior Homme  – he’s produced a collection that was far flashier than his own S/S 09 menswear collection, which is saying a lot.

Hardly any of the loose and draping aesthetic of the previous season carried over into this one.  Instead it’s a barrage of fluorescent colors, shiny materials, ill-fitting clothing with unflattering proportions and tacky pieces.

There are some nice individual pieces in this collection to be found if you look hard enough, but not many.

The accessories are the icing on the cake – if icing indeed comes in neon colors, that is… as fluorescent goggles and fanny packs top off this already shocking collection from one of the industry’s most previously sought after houses, which was always known for handsome silhouettes, amazing execution and classic, timeless pieces.
