Resort Report 2013: Oscar de la Renta, Erdem, DKNY

Oscar de la Renta

Though there were some watercolor prints, the bulk of this season’s Oscar de la Renta collection was black and white and jewel toned, making for a collection that felt less upbeat than what one might have expected. Cuts, however, including slightly flared skirts, fitted shorts, pencil skirts with fitted jackets, and flouncy day dresses, screamed holiday with their laid-back but ladylike silhouettes.

Erdem

Erdem Moralioglu’s collection may have had an eclectic mix of inspiration points this season (he described it to WWD as “Valley of the Dolls meets Upper East Side meets Amish”) but it was as consistent as always with a well executed lineup of printed dresses and separates. The designer also, for the first time, introduced swimwear and complemented his collection with Erickson Beamon-designed earrings.

DKNY

With an equal balance of color, prints, and solid neutrals, Donna Karan’s DKNY resort and holiday collections (shown simultaneously) had a little something to offer for all of her customers. Classic trenches and above-the-knee skirts in particular made for great day-to-night closet staple pieces.
