Style in the City 2012: The Christie’s Charity Fashion Show

Last Friday, we were privileged to attend Style in the City 2012, a charity fashion show at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester. This year, the annual event was in aid of The Young Oncology Unit at The Christie Manchester, which is currently raising money to build a new £12 million unit to help cancer sufferers aged 16-25.

The exciting day began with an exclusive VIP champagne reception on the 45th floor of the Hilton’s Beetham Tower where guests could relax and enjoy the scenic views of the North West. The guests included famous British Soap stars, as well as football legends.

The fashion show itself was divided into two sections, a people’s catwalk, followed by a professional catwalk, and both shows featured garments from the famous British department store, House of Fraser. The industry models even volunteered to take part in the shows, meaning that they gave up a whole day’s pay to help the special occasion. House of Fraser’s personal shopper, Susannah Maguire, from its Manchester flagship store was responsible for styling the shows, and we must say that she definitely did a great job! The looks were mainly a mix of formal and occasion wear, which especially acted as great inspiration for anybody struggling to choose an outfit to wear to the horse races this summer. A truly British day out of course!

The day was also filled with competitions and raffles, which included one lucky lady taking home a brand new Mulberry handbag — we are still so jealous! The comperes who made the day that extra entertaining were Peter Dickinson, the voice behind the X Factor UK, and the hilarious Barry Thompson, a local ambassador for the Christie. All in all, we are pleased to announce that the event alone has raised more than £25 000 for the charity, and this is definitely a great start towards achieving the overall required total.
