Sonia Rykiel Spring 2013 Runway Review

Given the odd situation that Sonia Rykiel creative director April Crichton is in (she will be replaced in October by Geraldo da Conceicao), it's little surprise that the brand opted not to stage a runway presentation. Surprisingly, however, given that Crichton worked alongside Rykiel for two decades, this season's lineup lacked the coquette appeal of your typical Rykiel collection.

Sure there were a number of the brand's signature knits, which this season had a Japanese tinge (a certified trend of the Spring 2013 season at this point), but there was no humor to be found. Though they may not exactly be on brand, there was nonetheless appeal to be found in the tattered hem knits, quilted sweaters, kimono-style tied trousers, and workwear-inspired jumpers, but most of the oddly patchworked dresses and patterened separates left much to be desired in both aesthetics and wearable appeal.
