Jill Stuart Fall 2013 Runway Review

The collection was done almost entirely in black with some white and gold accents and shots of navy, red and coral. The fabrics were custom: ribbed raffia,  laser-cut wool and finely detailed wool lace with foil and flocking accents. The exquisite materials rendered simply-cut dresses memorable and special. The wonderful thing about the textures was how they played the light and created dimension and interest. Hems were almost exclusively short, but as silhouettes were kept flirty and loose it was modern and never overly sexual. Some details were downright Victorian, which leant a buttoned-up feel to the collection. The voluminous jackets and rounded shoulders kept many a frock from getting too girlie, though we have a feeling many of Stuart’s customers will abandon those toppers to play up the feminine feel.

The dresses certainly would transport easily to the moneyed English countryside, where Stuart no doubt imagined them.
