Paris Fashion Week Fall 2013 Hits and Misses: Part 3 (Forum Buzz)

THE HITS:

Louis Vuitton

“Oh I loved everything, everything. The short hair, the cherry lips, the chinoiseries, the 20s, the 50s, spectacular show and collection!” [almudena]

“I loved this so much for some reason; I think when you watched the whole show and the theme kicked in and it was a winner. I loved the coats with the ombré glitter and those transparent dresses towards the end. They all looked like women scorned who just committed murders and went to go out to smoke a cigarette then lay back down as if nothing happened.” [TREVOFASHIONISTO]

“What made this collection for me is how haunting it looked. The lace and glittery embellishments running down the skirts, blazers and coats were so nice, this is one magnificent collection!” [GERGIN]

Hermes

“I love Christophe Lemaire at Hermes. His Hermes woman is well traveled, or knowledgeable of and interested in locations far different from her own; she is intelligent and prefers to dress as an adult. She also has a lot of money to spend on such clothes too!” [t-rex]

“This is everything Hermes should be: beautifully crafted classic clothes with a contemporary allure. Loved the masculine element. I could have used more drama (some of the fantastic jewelry he’s done in the past was missing here) but overall it’s very lovely. Next season I wouldn’t mind a greater sense of ease and perhaps the proposition of something new; a new take on luxury and classicism, something with the fervor that Céline has.” [Mutterlein]

“I’ve been a big fan of his work for the house so far, and this is his best yet. The looks are so luxurious and transforming (look at the way these models all become so sophisticated looking), what a dream.” [HeatherAnne]

Valentino

“I love everything in this collection! I’m a sucker for dresses and I’d love to possess all of the mini ones, really. One of my favorite collection this season for sure.” [BibiRose]

“Ahh… I can’t NOT love this, it’s giving me Charles Anastase circa 05-06 memories, if he had only stayed around and moved on with the rest. I don’t really see it as obsessing over youth, I mean, yes, to some extent, most people cling on to that, but why cling to the end? Which is what the future smells like… but I also see story-telling, the nostalgic Turbeville kind, and watered down just so it’s still cheerful and more naive.” [MulletProof]

“God damn it’s good.” [Mutterlein]

“They may be designing for an 18th century sociopath but I love it. The fur pieces were gorgeous, and I really adored the leather coat.” [Thefrenchy]

THE MISSES:

Saint Laurent

“Awful…just awful. At Saint Laurent? At any other label this might fly, but this looks hideously amateur.” [Scott]

“Remembering the YSL woman Stefano Pilati envisioned…and seeing the troubled teenager that Hedi [Slimane] has created…JESUS! I don’t know why he was the chosen one…this in not a sexy, French, modern, YSL woman, this is a girl who’s going places a true YSL woman doesn’t even know of!” [miguelalmeida]

“I’m not going to try, Hedi is so going to fashion hell.” [GERGIN]

“How rude! It’s disgraceful in my opinion to the legacy of Yves Saint Laurent and all that he built his house to be. This looks so high street, it’s unbelievable how disgusting this collection is! Still trying to get my head around this mess.” [Razzer]

Alexander McQueen

[Sarah] Burton is such a one-trick pony when it comes to silhouettes. Pretty sure all she is capable of is a cinched in waist. So boring. So costume-like. So god awful.” [HeatherAnne]

“It’s not that I dislike this, I just dislike the redundancy. Six years ago this probably would have been the best thing we saw and I know McQueen had a real knack for history but I don’t recall it ever being quite this blatant. For somebody who was at McQueen’s side for as long as Burton was, certainly she should have more answers than this. Would love to see her experiment a bit more. We saw some great stuff from her in the pre-fall collection, I wish that essence would have carried over into the mainline.” [Scott]

“The difference between Alexander and Sarah is that he made extravagant clothes whereas she makes extravagant over-embellished costumes. This collection is one more example of that…who cares anyway? These are only for editorials, not a single one of these gowns will see a retail floor.” [Melancholybaby]

Stella McCartney

“I liked the first section with the pinstripes, and then things go…awry…” [Not Plain Jane]

“It’s horrid. I can’t defend this. I like maybe three or four items…WTF Stella. WTF.” [Label Basher]

“I don’t like it at all. There’s no feeling for shape and almost all outfits are unflattering. The shoes are beyond hideous as well. Just an overall messy collection!” [FakeFlower]
