CYNTHIA STEFFE, DESIGNER PROFILE

Always fun, sophisticated, and polished, Cynthia Steffe founded her house in 1989 alongside her husband, Rick Roberts.

Despite the departure of Steffe in 2007, her namesake label has continued to flourish thanks to a strong team of designers let by ex-Naum designer Waleed Khairzada.

Continuously delivering the youthful, luxurious, free-spirited, and romantic wears the brand has come to be associated with, Cynthia Steffe is based in the heart of New York’s garment district, with offices and factory outposts around the globe. Collections are shown twice a year at New York Fashion Week.

For the 2008 Cynthia Steffe fall collection, classic shapes were tweaked into contemporary silhouettes with narrow, tailored jackets, soft, romantic blouses in chiffon and polka dot charmeuse, along with knee-length pencil skirts, menswear-inspired wide trousers, little black lace dresses, solid and leopard faux fur outerwear—many done in rich garnet, lapis, emerald, and raspberry tones (along with black, grey, and a range of browns).

Light and mid-weight fabrics were used to give versatility to the garments, a big plus in fickle fall weather.

This season, Shaun Kearney will be replacing Waleed Khairzada as the designer for Cynthia Steffe

I look forward to seeing what he has in store for Spring 2009!
