JAPAN FASHION WEEK: DAY 1

Japan Fashion Week kicked things off this week for the Spring 2009 collections with some of the country’s most talented designers.

Mintdesigns were the first to show, and they set the pace well. The models wore wellies, Mintdesigns signature umbrellas and skeletal headpieces – dinosaur skeletons to be exact. An unlikely mix of themes but the result is great; we see a lightweight, colorful and fun collection but with no lack of intricacy. The garments have eye-catching and brilliant patterns and quirky details.

The last brand showing for day one was the always lovely Fur Fur, who delivered nothing short of a magical presentation, complete will tall plants filling the runway.

The color palette was gorgeous, a mix of light and dark tones but all very earthy and organic. Great styling added much to the collection, particularly the heavy layering and magnificent use of dry flowers, which in groups, acted as layers themselves.  The main accessories were also crafted from flowers; elaborate floral necklaces, as well as some amazing headpieces.
