Los Angeles Fashion Week officially kicked off on Sunday, but Gen Art’s “Fresh Faces in Fashion” Awards Show presented on Friday, October 10th may have been the real beginning.

It seems as though Los Angeles was just beginning to develop a consistent fashion week when news of a split from Smashbox Studios and IMG have been announced.

Luckily, Gen Art was well prepared and remains independent from the official event and was able to showcase at the Peterson Museum in Miracle Mile.

Mandy Moore hosted the event which featured up and coming fashion designers including  Laeken, Maxine Dillon, Nanushka, Peonie, Quail and Wayf.

Menswear designers included  K.Z.O. and Wayne Hadly.

Laeken, a young, hipster womenswear collection, was a  crowd favorite. Constructed with organic cottons and modern designs, the easy comfortable fit and cool sensibility would suit any Hollywood or NYC city girl.

Accessory designers included Jerome c. Rousseau, Azature, Laura Kranitz and Posso featured in installations throughout the museum.  Rousseau’s shoe collection was vibrant, modern and youthful adding the perfect accessory to the City of Angels fashion affair.

Gen Art has showcased designers who have moved on to become huge successes including Shoshanna  and Zac Posen so keep your eyes on these names as you may be seeing a lot more of them in the near future.
