GIANFRANCO FERRE TO UNVEIL MENSWEAR IN MILAN

After recently appointed Gianfranco Ferre creative directors Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi made a successful debut with their womenswear showing in September at the Milan Spring/Summer 2009 shows during last season’s Fashion Week, it was just announced that the duo will unveil their first menswear collection on January 18th at Milan Fashion Week.

Aquilano notes that while there is always a bit of risk involved when doing something for the first time, he considers it the role of the designer to propose new ideas and in his case to find a balance with Ferre’s history.

He continues by telling a WWD reporter that he and Rimondi have scoured the Ferre archives and referenced sartorial styles from the Sixties and Seventies for their upcoming collection. Adding that they are looking to mix sartorial aspects with something a little bit more avant-garde for a sophisticated man who wants to live life in a relaxed way.

Since the ousting of Swedish designer Lars Nilsson in February 2008, Ferre menswear has been designed by an in-house creative team.
