BERLIN FASHION WEEK 2009

Over 800 designers and labels work in Berlin, so it’s little surprise that the German capital’s Fashion Week gains steam every season. The fall shows will mark Berlin’s 7th annual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin and the shows begin on January 28th and run through February 1st.  The Fall/Winter 2009 runway presentations will take place at Bebelplatz in the historic heart of Berlin.

The big names showing in Berlin this year include UGG Australia, Sisi Wasabi, JOOP!, Allude, and c.neeon. That said Vivienne Westwood Anglomania, Hugo, Heiress, Basso & Brooke, Kai Khune, and Karen Ly are notable pull-outs from last season.

Of further note is the German Fashion Week’s ‘Designer for Tomorrow’ Award, an award in which Peek & Cloppenburg KG Düsseldorf promotes the next generation of German designers via an award handed to eight candidates.

A huge number of entries were submitted and of those the designated jury selected eight to present their designs at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin. Their fashion visions are said to be multifaceted — ranging from futuristic looks and 1950’s styles to dramatic evening wear. The two winners will receive a tailor-made sponsoring program: for six months, Peek & Cloppenburg will provide them with their very own mentor who will introduce them to the fashion world, giving them an insight into the various areas of the sector. An initial contract, to be managed independently by the designers themselves, awaits the two winners.
