News & Runway

Always popular among young celebrities, the profile of Max and Lubov Azria’s brand rose to even higher heights this year when Angelina Jolie wore one of their dresses – backwards – to the SAG awards.

That said, it’s often hard to differentiate Max Azria’s namesake collection from his diffusion line – BCBG – but this season there was no such confusion.

Though there were beautifully draped pieces in the collection, they weren’t the main focus and I was pleasantly surprised that my favorite looks were the fitted, sharply angular ones that with their austerity had a distinctly Victorian feel. Azria, in fact, presented notably edgier looks than he has in previous seasons with an abundance of black, leather, lace, and transparency at play.

Not to be overlooked, there were some white mini-dresses in the mix, paired with black tights, that helped round out the collection.
