MILAN: PRADA F/W 09

The boiled wool coats that Yigal Azrouel showed in his Fall/Winter 2009 collection during New York Fashion Week were among my favorite pieces thus far this season. Now, in Prada’s collection, boiled wool is back, but unlike Azrouel’s cozy ones, Miuccia Prada’s have a more fitted, 40’s vibe to them (many are cinched at the waist). Just like in Azrouel’s collection, however, it was the coats that stood-out as the most covetable in the collection – along with the carefully crafted shoes and bags.

The collection reminded me somewhat of Marc by Marc Jacobs’s runway presentation this season because of its ‘Little House on the Prairie’ feel and dark color-palette (red, olive, brown, and black). That said, there was nothing frumpy or dowdy about Prada – perfect tailoring, seamless mixing of textures, and wholly wearable pieces even when they were spiced up with cutting edge, hugely over-sized warrior-like boots.

Also of note were the velvet heel pumps with fringing at the heel and exquisite paillette and embroidery details which added a touch of glamour and youth to a number of the nighttime looks.
