TOP CATWALKERS OF FALL ’09

Article excerpted from rocketrend.wordpress.com

In no order or ranking, here’s a few models who I thought did exceptionally well this season.

Iris Strubbegger

Liu Wen

Jourdan Dunn

Karmen Pedaru

Total shows: 60

Yulia is most probably this season’s top catwalker. Liu Wen’s list is impressive too, and the best showlist for an Asian model since Hye Park. Right now, Liu is having a monopoly of the Asian model’s market. If shows happen to need just one Asian model, they are likely to choose her, but if they need someone more quirky, then it’s Tao Okamoto.

As for Jourdan, she managed to walk for shows like Gucci, Chanel and Rue du Mail (as the first black model for the brand), so this was another season of break-throughs for her.

Appearing in the most shows doesn’t really mean anything to a model’s status unless the following campaign season rolls out well. Veterans such as Raquel, Natasha and Lily might have only walked around 35-45 shows this season, but their selection is more about quality than quantity.

Some new models were arranged by their agencies to do only the best two or three shows in certain cities, which I think leaves more of an impression than doing everything from Barbie’s 50th Anniversary to Blugirl.
