Though the reviews for the Fall/Winter 2009 Maison Martin Margiela collection were less than stellar, the brand is expanding with a home line. Maison Martin Margiela showcased prototypes and home objects at the international furniture and design exhibition, Salone del Mobile. 

All these items are part of their forthcoming planned line. Among the new items on display in the showroom, which reproduced the company’s interior design workshop in Paris, were wallpaper, bookshelves, lamps, and carpets.

Giovanni Pungetti, Maison Martin Margiela’s chief executive officer, noted that Margiela has always produced objects to complement the brand’s stores, but it used to be more about style than business.  Therefore, they thought the Salone del Mobile would be a good opportunity to introduce the new direction in which the brand is expanding.

Further, there are planned one-off partnerships and Maison Martin Margiela will offer commissions for individuals, public interior design and architecture, hotels, and restaurants saying:  “There are no limits. This installation is a visual stimulus, from fashion to lifestyle and atmosphere.”
