PARSONS BENEFIT

Honoring both those that make the business run and the designs flourish, ‘Parsons The New School for Design’ honored Tom Murry (Calvin Klein Inc.’s president and chief executive officer) and Francisco Costa (the women’s creative director of Calvin Klein Collection) at their black tie Parsons Fashion Benefit, which was held at Cipriani on Wall Street.

At the ceremony, Costa noted that he wouldn’t have been successful if it wasn’t for the support of Murry saying — “I have been creative and have been able to take chances because he was there, so this is very special.”

For his part, Murry noted that his journey with Costa was nothing short of exceptional as well as one of the highlights of his career.

In addition to those three awards, there was a runway show.  At the end of it, awards to students were handed out.  Parsons’ 2009 Designer of the Year award for women’s wear was a tie between Julia Blum and Robert Fitzsimmons, while Edward Lorenz Tan received the men’s wear  award. The children’s wear designer of the year award for boys was Anika Gupta, and Azumi Nishizawa for girls.

The event helped raise $800,000 which will go towards scholarships and academic programs at Parsons.  Among the heavyweights in attendance were Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Anna Wintour, Rachel Zoe, Ron Frasch, Terry Lundgren, Helena Christensen, Phillip Lim, Tracy Reese, Chris Benz, Dree Hemingway, Amanda Setton, Molly Sims, Olivia Palermo, Peter Som, Ashleigh Verrier, and Russell Simmons.
