FASHION’S NIGHT OUT EVENT

 
 
It is no secret that the fashion industry has been hit hard by the recession.   Therefore, come September 10th 2009, retailers will unite for an event called “Fashion’s Night Out.”  This will entail everything from special in-store events to parties, personal appearances by designers and celebrities, live music, fashion shows, freebies, charity tie-ins, and extended shopping hours till 11 p.m., encouraging shoppers to spend their hard-earned dollars . The event will coincide with the start of New York Fashion Week, and so far approximately 100 retails have agreed to participate.
 
This will be sponsored by The Council of Fashion Designers of America, American Vogue, and NYC & Co. The initiative was detailed at a press conference at City Hall by Mayor Michael Bloomberg whowas escorted by Terry Lundgren, Stephen I. Sadove, Brendan Hoffman, Ron Frasch, Jim Gold, Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, Tory Burch, Reed Krakoff, Tommy Hilfiger, Francisco Costa, Derek Lam, Phillip Lim, Rachel Roy, Nicole Miller, Zac Posen, Jason Wu, Andrew Rosen, Simon Doonan, Julie Gilhart, Anne Keating, Martine Reardon, Ken Downing, and Steven Kolb. 

 

The initiative was spearheaded by U.S. Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who told WWD that the event is also slated to happen internationally in cities where Vogue has editions, including Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Japan, China, Taiwan, Russia, Brazil, and India. Further, there is a charity component to the project – all proceeds from the sale of limited edition t-shirts, which will retail for $30 to $35, will go to support the National September 11th Memorial & Museum.
