PARIS: JEAN PAUL GAULTIER S/S 2010

Among the stars that turned out for the Jean Paul Gaultier Spring Summer 2010 show were Dita Von Teese, Katy Perry, and Rihanna – in other words, some of todays most uniquely styled stars (Lady Gaga was perhaps the only one missing to round out the bunch).

While nothing can compare to Gaultier’s couture shows (which, for those interested in some behind the scenes workings, were explored in the Sundance Channel’s documentary “The Day Before Jean Paul Gaultier), the French icon’s ready to wear shows are always interesting to watch. In the same vein as Vivienne Westwood’s runway presentation, even if the looks aren’t all wearable, everything from the hair to the makeup to the way the clothing pieces are styled make the shows enthralling from the very first look.

Shredded fabric, prominent shoulders, cropped tops, striped fabrics, layering, sheer panel contrasts, and khaki – all recurring trends we have been seeing this Spring/Summer season – also made their way down the runway.  There was also somewhat of a military-inspiration via flat, laced, sexy combat boots, trench coats, and petite hats.
