"The inspiration came from the 1920s and my research into Josephine Baker. I was so heavily inspired by her journey trudging trough the horror of 1920s racism and the Vaudeville circuit and her escape and power within the french military. I was then inspired to bring Japanese geisha themes in and mix classic British materials and exaggerated kimono techniques. The whole collection is about beauty and power and about the removed power of the unemotional. Mixing the old and the new and giving it a twist. I have also taken from the 50s using pointed bras and synched waists but laying sheer organza over the top to reveal a certain vintage sex appeal."

“We looked at Bianca Jagger’s life prior to her Studio 54 days, and we were drawn to her Latin American upbringing. Other influential Latin American women across all decades started coming to mind with Frida Kahlo at one end of the spectrum and contemporaries such as Carolina Issa and Alice Dellal at the other. The result was American sportswear-inspired pieces with strong Latin American details: bursts of color, saturated prints, rich textures and intricate embroidery.”

“The collection, Resurgence, focuses on the rise and fall of Detroit, what it represented to America in its heyday — Motown, the auto industry and how inevitably it will come back around. I wanted to create awareness about Detroit's unique culture, history and its current state. Through my work, I'd like people to see the possibility of the city being something of value once again.”

Balancing fresh, feminine styles and modern sportswear, the collection is rich in detail, including leather and raffia embroideries and authentic athletic accents. Silhouettes range from crop-tops paired with full midi skirts and cropped trousers to signature fit-and-flare frocks. Textile highlights include geometric laces, tribal embroideries and bonded technical knits. Prints, always a staple, include mixed scale gingham and window pane, tropical floral placements and tribal geometrics in a spectrum of pinks, blues, greens and ochre. Building on Afro-Cuban cultural influences, key looks such as a bold lapis and scarlet floral flyaway frock with back ruffle detail, a striped scarlet and black flyaway tee, structured crisp white trousers and fisherman-inspired sandals express the effortless style of the modern woman who is sexy, assured and contemporary.”

“Spring 2014 is modern romanticism. Construction details and trims reference early American workwear, with a hint of feminism. Key silhouettes experiment with proportion – cropped tops, full trousers and teacup skirts are paired with soft, modern volume in rounded sleeve shapes. Airy, crisp white poplin shirting and geo eyelet are layered with tactile matelassé, laminated knit and crystal-encrusted lace. Botanic inspiration is abstracted in prints, with transparent layers of color. Neutrals of palest grey and sage green are balanced with a strong base of cayenne and nude, with a pop of robin’s egg blue.”
