The Scene: Plenty of glossy editors, bloggers and, of course, what would a Fashion Week show be without random celebrities? Tadashi Shoji had Alyssa Milano, Katrina Bowden, Carrie Preston and Andrea Powell.
The Inspiration: “Moorish influenced architecture and textiles,” according to the designer.
The Look: Tadashi Shoji has said his goal is to help women feel confident and beautiful; in keeping with that, he presented a regal collection brimming with lace, cape coats and floor-sweeping silhouettes that reflected “the beauty, romance and mystery of a moonlit Moorish palace.” His jewel-toned palette was inspired by a Moroccan sky.
The Accessories: Very minimal jewelry and no handbags. Shoes were black with a front cut-out and ankle strap.
The Beauty: Hair was pinned back with flyaways to give an untamed feel to the updo, while makeup was tastefully dramatic; a porcelain complexion was accented with a bold orange eye and red lip.
The Takeaway: If you’re in the market for a cocktail or black tie dress you’ll be able to wear for seasons to come, this collection will be a good bet. Better yet, Shoji’s designs can translate to suit a variety of figures well beyond the statuesque model type. Now the big question — who is going to channel their inner Gwyneth Paltrow/Tom Ford and wear one of the designer’s capes off the runway?
