Milly by Michelle Smith Provides a Week’s Worth of Pieces for Every Experience for Fall 2014 (Runway Review)

The Inspiration: Glitzy downtown party girls.

The Look: The modern city girl’s perfect wardrobe, with pieces that go from Monday morning in the office to a Saturday night date all the way to Sunday brunch. Pieces for every experience, featuring a palette of largely medium-dark gray mixed nicely with stark creams and sweetly pale, buttery pinks. At first glance this is a pretty straightforward collection, but there are some surprising silhouettes, including furry chevron-esque pants, completely sheer ball-gown-ready skirts styled without slips and layered skirts that seem sweet, but are elevated with some serious movement. Not all daring, there are even some work-appropriate looks here, like paper-bag-waist trousers paired with a half-demure, half-fun button-down.

The Accessories: Cagey open-toe heels, bundled-up scarves and ladylike bags finished off the looks.

The Beauty: The no-makeup makeup face — a rather refreshing concept for New York Fashion Week, to be honest.

The Takeaway: If you’ve ever had the desire to show up to a party in a festive full Mongolian fur outfit — bottoms, outerwear and all — this collection is for you.
