Pringle of Scotland Takes On Experimental Knitwear with Sophistication for Fall 2014 (Runway Review)

The Scene: A bright and breezy Renaissance-style breakfast in Mayfair’s Savile Club with Olivia Palermo, Yasmin Sewell and Coco Rocha seated amidst the floral arrangements and breakfast treats.

The Inspiration: The game of opposites, according to the brand’s designer Massimo Nicosia, who has experimented with both textile and structure in this graphic, sculptural collection.

The Look: Pringle of Scotland is taking its knitwear away from tradition and into the modern woman’s wardrobe. Minimalist 2D knit dresses with a sporty aesthetic were juxtaposed with graphic 3D boucle and jacquard statement pieces, alongside loose, layered deconstructed sweaters. The palette was simple, but rich with a mélange of scarlet, burgundy, tangerine and dove grays on a monochrome base.

The Accessories: The silhouettes were accessorized only with textural elements and simple monochrome Manolo Blahnik court shoes.

The Beauty: Fresh and traditional featuring dewy skin with a wide eye and full brow. A dash of mascara on the top lid and a touch of rose on the lip with loose, long hair worn pushed back.

The Takeaway: Utterly beautiful. It is sometimes too easy to dismiss Pringle of Scotland as another heritage brand, yet Nicosia’s simple color palette and exciting use of texture was fresh as well as inspirational and one of the brand’s best collections yet.
