Understated Luxury with a Modern Edge at Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2014 (Runway Review)

The Scene: Hilary Swank and Alison Brie brought the star power to Milan Fashion Week.

The Look: Massimiliano Giornetti’s collection for Ferragamo was the poster child for understated luxury with a modern edge. Case in point, the lineup’s ripped fabrics, painterly leopard prints, brushed plaids and mixed textures (a leather and fur jacket, for example). These looks were all sophisticated, but could easily be worn by a young trendsetter. With the exception of a few cape and blanket coats, silhouettes were fitted, hemlines hit knee-length and the color palette was kept dark with lots of brown, black and gray with pops of orange, purple and metallics.

The Accessories: Below-the-knee black boots and booties both accented with a buckle and with heels whose undersides were gold as well as structured handbags in a variety of fabrics (lots of animal skin) with oversized Omegas.

The Beauty: Side-parted hair slicked back into a pencil-straight, low ponytail and understated makeup.

The Takeaway: With plenty of looks that would appeal to women in their 20s as much as they would to women three times that age and a strong accessories offering, Fall 2014 looks like it will be a great season for Ferragamo.
