Lindsay Lohan for Emanuel Ungaro Spring 2010

At a time when the Emanuel Ungaro label was fumbling, the powers that be at the brand decided to give the house an edge by allowing Lindsay Lohan to take the reins as artistic director. And it was apparent that her influence was strong on the disastrous Spring 2010 collection. It was all glitter pasties, sequin hearts and bandeau bra tops — hardly reflective of Ungaro’s refinement. Critics universally agreed: Lindsay Lohan needed to try her best to stay out of trouble and keep her day job, because fashion design was clearly not her strong suit.

The Low Lights:

“The collection was mediocre, without any new form or content, lacking in invention or development. It presented a High Street, tarted-up look that is out of step with the times…The worst offense, and where the collaboration of Archs and Lohan hopefully ends, is their total misreading of Emanuel Ungaro’s great legacy, which no one seems to have mentioned.”- Josh Patner, Slate

“We love Lindsay Lohan—as an actress,” Mr. Baron said. “Period.” – Fabien Baron via Eric Wilson, The New York Times

“Nothing in the collection evidenced any real skill or discernible design work. In fact, you could probably find a lot of it already on the shelves at Kitson. I did hear someone remark that they liked the shoes, which had narrow, stair-step heels. Still, there’s really no defending this misguided collection, other than as a desperate bid for attention from a house that hasn’t mattered since its founder retired in 2004. I just don’t think it’s the kind of attention they had in mind.” – Booth Moore Los Angeles Times
