The Worst-Reviewed Runway Shows in Recent Memory

Rihanna for River Island

Rihanna debuted her first collaboration with River Island during London Fashion Week, and critics were thoroughly unimpressed with the results and a little peeved that RiRi bothered to show such a bad collection during Fashion Week at all. The range was all midriff tops and mesh — the sort of stuff only Rihanna can pull off and the rest of us should never put on. The experience at the show was worse, since the singer was apparently one hour late for the nine-minute show, leaving the press extremely ruffled.

The Low Lights:

“If you were a guy hoping for a one night stand and a girl started chatting to you in a bar wearing anything from the Rihanna for River Island collection, you could feel fair confident you’d be getting lucky. The only lingering uncertainty in your mind would be whether or not she would take a credit card….Rihanna’s show was a tiresome, underwhelming and uninspired marketing exercise. The clothes were hideous and without an ounce of panache or style between them. It was like Fright Night in Kmart.”- Tom Sykes, The Daily Beast

“But for keen fashion enthusiasts who look to London for innovative ideas this 120-piece collection undoubtedly fell short.”- Karen Kay, Helen SeamonsThe Guardian

“Nipple-baring, crotch-flashing mesh outfits and bra tops aren’t exactly what a stylish gal wants to throw on for a casual night out.The entire collection was a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen.” – Rebecca Adams, The Huffington Post
