One Minute With … Designer Claire Pettibone

Since 2005, Claire Pettibone‘s vintage-inspired gowns have garnered a cult following among die-hard romantics across the globe. Almost a decade later, the L.A.-based designer is still at the top of her game. We sat down with Pettibone backstage after her Fall 2015 bridal show at the Academy Mansion in New York City.

theFashionSpot: How has the bridal industry changed since you began?

Claire Pettibone: When I started, my look was very different from anything that was out there. It took a little while for the world to catch up to me, but not with brides. My brides have always wanted a unique look that was special. It’s nice to see that trend catch on. Women are getting married later than they used to, so they’re a little more independent.

tFS: What bridal tradition are you not keen on?

CP: The garter!

tFS: What’s your favorite?

CP: Something borrowed, something blue, something old, something new. I love having an element that comes from your past.

tFS: Speaking of blue, we’re seeing a trend on the runways this season.

CP: My brides love when I do color and I’ve been experimenting with it for a while, but this is the first time I’ve done blue.

tFS: What’s the one thing that brides need that they often forget?

CP: Perspective!
