Industry News

By far, the two most buzzed about industry moments were Kate Lanphear’s surprising move to Maxim and John Galliano’s career, both before and after the announcement of his move to Margiela. Anna Wintour was the most discussed fashion personality, followed by the Olsen twins, Victoria Beckham, Anna Dello Russo and Elena Perminova. Fashion bloggers continued to be a hot topic along with ethical/fair trade fashion, cultural appropriation and feminism.

Fashion and Beauty Brands

Saint Laurent Fall 2014 was the most talked about runway show this year, followed by Chanel Fall 2014, Tom Ford Spring 2015, Christian Dior Spring 2015 and Prada Spring 2015. In beauty, Chanel, MAC, YSL, Dior and Urban Decay were the brands on everyone’s minds. Our members across the pond also kicked Bourjois Paris and Biologique Recherche high up in the rankings.

Models and Celebrities

Kendall Jenner wasn’t even in the top 10, though her thread did stir up some conflict in May when the moderator officially moved the conversation from celeb style over to the model board. Surprisingly, other buzzy favorites were also absent from the list. Edita Vilkeviciute‘s thread was the most viewed, followed by Anna Christine Speckhart, Frida Gustavsson, Kemp Muhl and Candice Swanepoel. On the boys’ side, members were most excited about Yuri PleskunRobbie Wadge, Jeremy Young and David Gandy. The old thread for Andreja Pejic pre-transition also ranked highly, and we’re expecting great things now that she’s made her big comeback! In star style, Michelle Obama vied with Kim Kardashian and Angelina Jolie for forum favorites, though street style vets Charlotte Casiraghi, Olivia Palermo and Alexa Chung remained high in the rankings as well.

Magazines

Despite Paper‘s attempt to break the Internet, Kimye’s Vogue issue generated far more chatter with 515 comments and over 118,000 views, more than five times the amount of attention paid to the butt cover. Of all magazine issues this year, only Vogue‘s September issue sparked more conversation, followed by Vogue Italia’s September issue, Kendall’s LOVE cover and Rihanna shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott for the September issue of W.
