68 Most Captivating Looks From the Fall 2016 Haute Couture Shows

For Fall 2016, Haute Couture was a mix of the old and the new. Legendary atelier statesmen like Jean Paul Gaultier, Karl Lagerfeld and John Galliano really delivered with some standout collections. We were also treated to some familiar faces strutting the Atelier Versace catwalk, including Carolyn Murphy and Karen Elson. Proving that history repeats itself, there were constant shout-outs to 80s fashion, from exaggerated shoulders to a few decadent ensembles that wouldn’t have felt out of place as part of Melanie Griffith’s or Sigourney Weaver’s wardrobe for Working Girl. We were even transported back to Elizabethan times courtesy of Valentino.

On the other end of the sartorial spectrum, the always envelope-pushing Iris van Herpen presented a striking offering replete with other-worldly structure, scene-stealing 3-D details and futuristic tailoring. You even had some Haute Couture newbies like J. Mendel and Francesco Scognamiglio putting out quite a few substantial pieces.
