Karl Lagerfeld Built a Chanel Eiffel Tower for the Brand’s Fall 2017 Couture Show

Karl Lagerfeld loves a good prop. Back in March, Chanel launched a fully (OK, semi) functional spacecraft in the middle of its Fall 2017 show. Two months later, for Resort 2018, the brand spent a king’s ransom erecting its own acropolis in Paris’ Grand Palais.

For the French fashion house’s latest couture show — which took place Tuesday morning while most Americans were home prepping for some serious day drinking — Kaiser Karl once again pulled out all the stops. The fashion legend paid homage to the City of Lights by building his own mini Tour Eiffel, a proportional replica of the 984-foot wrought iron structure visible from the show venue’s skylit windows.

And that was just one of the many sights to be seen at Chanel’s Fall 2017 Haute Couture show. Scroll down for even more Insta-highlights and a slideshow of all the runway looks.

1. Breaking: boater hats are the new newsboy caps. Models walked the runway in tweed and leather takes on the Chanel founder’s favorite topper.

4. Katy Perry and Kristen Stewart showed off their platinum ‘dos. Stewart made the case for two 2000s-era trends: tube tops and frosted tips.

5. Stewart with her true hair twin, one Cara Delevingne.

6. The Chanel Tower was the centerpiece of the show, the Eiffel Tower the inspiration for the collection. The dresses and coats referenced the structure’s flared silhouette.

7. Patent leather booties worn with eveningwear? Why not. Like the Parisian skyline, Lagerfeld’s latest collection mixed materials new and old.

8. We weren’t kidding about those structural dresses. This empire-waist wedding dress was a standout look.
