If you’re looking for glamorous model shots, this isn’t the month for you. October did, however, feature some surprising celebrity hits (Reese Witherspoon in a pimp coat!). Unfortunately, the hits are stacked against a longer list of flops. From Vogue ‘s Rooney Mara cover to Jennifer Aniston on Harper’s Bazaar , there were a staggering number of images that left us wondering if they were actually outtakes. Here’s a look at all the October 2017 magazine covers you need to know about.
The Glossies: All the October 2017 Covers We Loved and Hated
Harper's Bazaar UK
Rachel Weisz looking like she stepped out of a fairy tale in a pretty, albeit safe, cover shot.
Glamour UK
Kate Winslet gets points for her fall vibes, but this cover fails to be either memorable or inspiring.
British Vogue
We can all agree that Zoë Kravitz is beautiful and usually photographs like a dream, but here she looks scared and awkward.
Harper's Bazaar Czech Republic
Bara Podzimkova really didn’t need Lake Malawi for this shot. He looks like her awkward man-child.
ELLE Italia
Always the same-same with Bella Hadid...
Maxim
Nothing earth-shattering, but some solid accessorizing for this Devon Windsor cover.
ELLE
Though our forums pointed out its uncanny similarity to another cover, it's nonetheless a uniquely memorable shot of Rihanna.
Marie Claire
Taraji P. Henson working the camera and that Versace like only she can.
Harper's Bazaar
An uninspiring cover despite Jennifer Aniston's covetable Louis Vuitton Cruise 2018 dress and oddball drop earrings.
InStyle
It's always nice to see a fresh complexion, especially for a beauty-themed issue, but why that awkward finger and smile?
Vanity Fair
She may be more famous for her love life than her acting, but who wouldn't want to know some juicy details — and how Meghan Markle's skin is so dewy?
Marie Claire UK
Shailene Woodley's beauty look is on point, but who would notice with all that distracting text?
Glamour
Reese Witherspoon looking fabulous — pimp coat and all.
Vogue
How is this Rooney Mara shot not an outtake?
Glamour Spain
Did Toni Garrn get dressed at the flea market?
W
The annual The New Royals issue features Tilda Swinton, Chris Hemsworth, Winona Ryder, Hailee Steinfeld and Tracee Ellis Ross among others, but it's hard to beat Ross' sass.
Vogue Australia
This Lorde shot looks more like a coat advertisement than a glossy cover shot.
Goop
It's always nice when Gwyneth Paltrow reminds us that she's in on the joke.
Vogue Japan
Mica Argañaraz and Yoshiki give us a memorable shot in androgynous head-to-toe Saint Laurent and striking makeup.
Cosmopolitan
This Kate Hudson shot is more trashy than anything else, but would we expect anything more from Cosmopolitan ?
Vogue Germany
A refreshingly simple cover that captures Christy Turlington Burns' effortless beauty.
Harper's Bazaar Spain
It's a little too early for a 90s Tom Ford for Gucci revival. Though it's nice to see Amber Valletta get a cover.
Vogue Paris
Cara Delevingne looking very stylish and Parisian...if only that hand tattoo wasn't so distracting.
Allure
This looks like a close-up of a mug shot — not exactly something that inspires the "best of beauty." Though given how manufactured her beauty is, neither should Kim Kardashian.
Vogue Netherlands
Imaan Hammam is glamorous perfection!
