ALEXIS MABILLE: PARIS COUTURE S/S ’10

Kicking off the couture season is young couturier Alexis Mabille.

While he may not be the most well-known couturier, his carefully crafted garments have already been worn by France’s first lady Carla Bruni, Dita von Teese (who was seated front row at the show wearing a deep cut Alexis Mabille little black dress under a black fox fur coat), and Keira Knightley, among others.

This season, the designer, who showed his collection in a garage on the rue de Turenne (a la Christian Lacroix), played with graphics and color blocking that was somewhat reminiscent of the Fall 2009 Pantone-inspired Henry Holland collection. In fact, a number of the pieces – given how much skin they covered – seemed more Fall/Winter than Spring/Summer.

However, it was the two strapless cocktail numbers shown towards the end, with their carefully pleated tops and fitted-to-a-tee bodices, that were the most remarkable.
