Sofia Vergara Models for Stella McCartney’s 2018 Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

British fashion designer Stella McCartney announced on Monday this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness campaign, featuring Colombian-American actress Sofia Vergara in pink lace lingerie called “Rose Romancing.”

The 47-year-old designer’s eponymous brand chose Vergara as this year’s model to underscore the fact that Latin women are at a disadvantage because they lack access to health care that other ethnicities in the U.S. are more able to receive. “Each and every person, regardless of where they live, what they look like, or what they believe in, can be affected and deserves access to preventative education, holistic support, and advanced breast cancer care,” says the Instagram post.

Moreover, the campaign hopes that the lingerie set will serve as a reminder to women to have their health checked on the regular. “In 2018, over 266,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women and men,” the post says. “Nearly 41,000 women are expected to die in 2018 from breast cancer, though there has been a decrease in death rates since 1989.”

The Breast Cancer Awareness campaign, which Stella McCartney launches annually, is a personal one to Stella as her mother Linda passed away from the disease some 20 years ago. In remembrance of Linda, the brand published the post on her birthday.

The lingerie set will benefit charities such as the Linda McCartney Centre, the Hello Beautiful Foundation and Memorial Sloan Kettering. Last year, Alicia Keys was the face of the campaign, the proceeds of which went to Memorial Sloan Kettering and Linda McCartney Centre.

Rose Romancing will be available to order in Stella McCartney stores on October 1.
