Most of the pieces were structured and tailored this season. One look in particular, a deceptively simple black long-sleeved mini with a gold collar and cuff accent was particularly memorable – perfect play on sexy-tough. A strapless sweetheart, bustier-like bodice mini-dress with gold finishing and a puffy black bottom also left a lasting impression. A number of the looks that veered on the more Grecian/Egyptian goddess side via pleating, beading, and gold accents reminded me of Sophia Kokosalaki’s wonderful Spring/Summer 2009 collection.
Lhuillier’s work is full of details. and it’s easy to see that her fabrics are chosen with great care. Those that flock to her for their special occasion dresses will have plenty to choose from come fall – not least of which a striking red, flowing, triple strap gown that would look breathtaking on Penelope Cruz at the Oscars.
