Head-to-Toe PJ-Inspired Looks: Yay or Nay?

It all started with the Spring 2009 harem pant trend before progressing into the pajama pant trend during the Spring 2011 shows and now it has capped with the head-to-toe pajama-inspired trend of the Resort 2012 season. Designer Rachel Roy recently wore one such look to a New York City movie premiere and told InStyle that she opted for the ultra-casual ensemble because she has an 11-year-old daughter and likes to show her that it’s “OK to take fashion risks and to have fun and tell a story with fashion.” This is no easy look to pull off, especially when paired with geek-chic glasses, and it’s hard to deny that Roy looks like she literally went from her bed to the red carpet.

That said, fashion is notorious for promoting style over comfort so it’s somewhat refreshing to see the attention focused on such a loose, forgiving silhouette. Perhaps the way to go with this, however, is to opt for either the top with fitted bottoms or the bottoms with a structured top for a relaxed feel to what would otherwise be a stiff look. This also allows you to work in bold prints or even contrasting prints if you’re feeling extra daring (don’t bold contrasting prints sound easy to pull off when compared to a full-on pajama in public?)

What do you make of this head-to-toe PJ-inspired trend? Yay or nay?
