What We Bought: Anything But Boring Basics (Forum Shopaholics)

I may have put my shopping problem on display this week, but other forum members shared some quality practical winter wardrobe buys that are sure to be their go-to items. This week’s highlights start off with the smart buys and end with the more frivolous (i.e. the things that I couldn’t stop myself from buying). We have a former shopaholics thread in the forums, but I’ve definitely fallen of the proverbial wagon. Since I discovered that you can get a percentage of cash back for most online shopping by going through ebates I’ve become kind of unstoppable.

Bloo90fashion is a big fan of Romwe’s online store, and when she makes purchases like this black coat it’s easy to see why. It’s edgy and kind of classic all at once.

Hebden called her new chunky Balenciaga scarf “a (semi) practical sale purchase” from Barneys.

Those of us in the US aren’t lucky enough to have access to Cos, but we can still admire the purchases of our European friends. Tinetush was “craving some warm nice basics that are easy to style” so she picked up a grey wool and viscose blend tunic, and a navy lambswool cardigan that are quickly becoming staples in her wardrobe.

Lozenges62 bought a sweater dress from A.P.C. that looks so nice I can’t bring myself to label it as a “basic” piece. “This is absolutely perfect for me,” she writes. “It’s cozy and chic and looks good with jeans or tights. The first day I wore it I had that rare feeling of knowing it would be a favorite for years.”

I went on an unexpected shopping spree on the Urban Outfitters website and one of the items I pulled the trigger on was this BDG chambray shirt with a single pocket.

I also ordered a towering pair of bronze Jeffrey Campbell pointy platform loafers. I’m pretty sure I’m going to either love them or hate them when they arrive. They don’t seem like the kind of shoes you can feel just ok about.

As a big fan of sequins, sweaters, and cute animals, picking up this Cooperative sweater with a sequined fox on the front was a no-brainer. Especially since it’s currently on sale.

This pink lace Pins and Needles top was also an Urban Outfitters purchase and is intended as a gift for one of my sisters (this is the one time I’m going to hope she doesn’t read my articles). It looks like a fun easy piece that can be dressed up or down.

A trip to Off Fifth at the Outlet Mall yielded a Free People party dress with faux leather panels in front and back. I also bought a pair of skinny maroon Paige jeans that I never want to take off and a brown pair of perforated Diane von Furstenberg pumps among other things. If I continued to list all my purchases, this article would never end. I’m either the worst or the best. I can’t decide.
