The Museum at FIT Celebrates Women in Fashion with a new exhibit “Arbiters of Style: Women at the Forefront of Fashion.”

The 50 honored designers include Vivienne Westwood, Elsa Schiaparelli, Coco Chanel, Carolina Herrera, and Denise Poiret, influential women in publishing, as well as fashion executives and models.

There is a quote from pre-Anna Wintour, Vogue editor Diana Vreeland that reads “Fashion must be the most intoxicating release from the banality of the world,” which helps set the tone for the exhibit which runs through November 8th and is a wonderful celebration of females and clothing over the past 250 years.

As you navigate the over 70 looks, read the footnotes found throughout the show, which was curated by Molly Sorkin and Colleen Hill, and provides interesting tidbits about the outfits on display.
