COSTUME: THE ART OF DRESS

“The Art of Dress,” is a new cross-cultural guided tour in NYC’s Metropolitan Museum of Art which focuses on the way artists have used clothing to express identity and influence from the 6th century B.C. through the 20th century. Described by the Met as offering insights into the landmarks of costume history and examining the different materials used throughout the ages, the tour features clothing represented in stone, wood, and paint, and covers trends and developments from all over the world starting in ancient Greece and continuing through the 20th century.

The tour, which is offered between exhibitions when the Costume Institute is closed, will now feature actress Sarah Jessica Parker as the voice on the audio guide. Available beginning November 25th, Parker taped the audio tour in a recording studio in the summer and the Costume Institute curator-in-charge Harold Koda told WWD that “looking beyond our encyclopedic collection of costume to the museum’s other treasures puts clothing into a historical context [and] walking through the galleries listening to Sarah Jessica Parker’s narration will bring a sense of discovery and delight to the experience.”
